Seven Taken Hostage in Navarre, Suspect Kills Himself

Three girls and four males ranging from age 12 to 24-years-old were held hostage in Navarre. None of them were seriously harmed but Santa Rosa County sheriff's officials say the suspect tried to sexually assault the females.

The suspect, 24-year-old Jason Parker of Fort Walton Beach, died late Sunday shortly after being airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

Parker, who worked for a plumbing company, shot himself in the face in front of three male hostages and a sheriff's deputy.

The suspect initially pulled a gun on three females and two males who had gathered along a road and led them into the woods. Two men were later taken hostage as they searched for the other victims.

Two girls managed to call a parent on a cell phone and hinted at what was happening. The mother called deputies and reported the girls missing.
