A Mary Esther man is in custody this morning (Monday) after an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy found him crouching near a dumpster outside Santa Rosa Mall with burglary tools, a baggy with cocaine residue, and a dagger.
Deputies say someone broke into the old Ruby Tuesday's building around one a.m. Saturday morning and then entered the mall's common area, attempting to steal from a center kiosk jewelry store. Alarms went off and the suspect fled.
A deputy doing frequent checks at the site overnight found the boarded up window open again around 2:10 a.m. Monday morning. He set up a perimeter and called for back-up. While waiting for additional units the deputy heard a noise nearby and found 27-year old Jarvis Jerel Hill of 401 Shrewsbury Road hiding behind a dumpster that is hidden by a six foot high concrete wall.
Hill is charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Okaloosa Sheriff's Deputies conducted a complete sweep of the mall, inside and out to make sure there were no other suspects.
