TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- An anti-personnel mine has been removed from a Tallahassee area recycling business. An anti-personnel mine is an explosive device designed to be triggered by a person’s weight, as opposed to anti-tank mines, which are designed for use against vehicles.
The Big Bend Regional Bomb Squad on Wednesday took to the explosive device to Tallahassee Community College's law enforcement academy in Havana, north of Tallahassee, for destruction. Detectives then will try to determine if it was active or just a training dud and how it wound up at Marpan Recycling, Leon County sheriff's Sgt. Tony Drzewiecki told The Tallahassee Democrat newspaper.
The mine was found earlier Wednesday by workers at the business in a sparsely populated area south of the city.
