For several months, State Attorney Glenn Hess has said if the federal government hands over any of its investigation of the Reed case, it would most likely happen after all eight defendants were adjudicated.

With Tuesday's conviction and the impending sentencing of Amy Cooper, Dr. Reed's girlfriend, the government's case is practically over.

Although Hess says his office has not received any paperwork from federal prosecutors, he says there are some incidents that have the potential for state prosecution.

They involve Mardi Gras parties Dr. Reed attended where cocaine may have been used by what Hess called "prominent people."

Jonny, your missing the point. The media keeps using Dr. Reed's name because of his popularity in this area. They also keep calling this his drug ring. When its not his drug ring, it was Melara's ring. YES, he was wrong for getting involved. But he is not the kingpin as the local media would have us all believe. Dr Reed is serving his punishment, 57 months. He was a great surgeon, unfortunately he probably wont ever be able to practice anylonger. He has helped thousands of people in this area with spinal problems, including myself. Regardless of what he has done, i will always be grateful for his skills.

I bet if doctors were randomly drug tested, you'd be surprise how many would test positive. Maybe that's why theres so many malpractice lawsuits, because their under the influence while we are in their care.

Who cares if he's a doctor, the surgeon general or a fastfood burgerflipper, you do the crime, you do the time. Everyone needs to be treated the same.
