Deputies with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched Friday morning at approximately 2:09 am, in response to a physical disturbance call at the Executive Inn at 9424 Front Beach Road. Deputies arrived minutes later and made contact with a female victim of the assault.

The victim provided a physical description to deputies and identified the suspect as Andrew Grande, a white male, DOB 9/23/86. At 2:18 am, a deputy encountered Grande in the front parking lot of the Executive Inn. Grande attempted to flee, but deputies were able to stop him.

Deputies attempted to handcuff Grande and were able to place a handcuff on one wrist. During the struggle, deputies observed Grande was attempting to place something in his mouth. Grande managed to free himself and stand and deputies deployed a taser in an attempt to gain control. Grande was able to pull the taser probes from his body. Shortly thereafter deputies observed that Grande seemed to be choking and attempted to use the Heimlich maneuver on Grande but were unsuccessful. Deputies continued to provide aid until EMS arrived at 2:26 am. EMS was unable to gain a clear airway on Grande until, using a pair of forcepts, they pulled a large bag of marijuana out of his airway. Grande was transported to Bay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Frank McKeithen has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) conduct the investigation of this incident and extends his sympathy to the family of Mr. Grande.

A deputy injured during the physical altercation with Grande has been treated and released from Gulf Coast Medical Center. The three deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave per BCSO policy.

To all of th people preaching about making drugs legal, if you dont like it move somewhere it is. The law is the law and the police are the ones attempting to enforce it.

To all of those who want to bash the cops...Think before you talk. Who is the ones who come running everytime you are in distress?? COPS!! Who are the ones who die everyday just to protect you from taking the bullet?? COPS!! If you dont believe me just look on the internet and read how many have died this year just trying to protect their area. It is sad the gentleman died the way he did but it is reality. Are you all dumb enough to believe the Deputies dont feel horrible about the situation...is so get a clue people. How would you feel is the cops came to your house for a disturbance and just said nope sorry not gonna put his/her life in danger to help you. Many cops have died in the same situation because you only try to resist or run if you are trying to hide something. To the family sorry for your loss and to the Bay County Deputies thank you for doing the job you do everyday. To the ones bashing the cops, try their job for one week.

After watching the video this was a terrible accident. However a set of forceps a depressor and a flashlight would have probably saved this mans life.Based on the taser shoved in the back of mr grande neck the last few seconds of his life it is apparent deputies are trained to disable and kill why arent they trained to save a life?
