Some local children have received the low-dose swine flu shots that are now being recalled by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Officials say 16 of those doses were given to children during clinics at Tyndall Elementary and the Health Department. 250 of the recalled shots were released through Tyndall's Child Development Center.

But, Health Department representatives say the weaker doses do not pose safety concerns and should still be effective. "There's still enough potency in there to provide some necessary protection, some level of protection for the children against swine flu," says Health Department spokesman Bryan Russell.

The CDC is not recommending an additional shot for people who received the weaker vaccinations. None of the vaccines distributed to local pediatricians are part of the recall.

The Health Department is holding its last H1N1 vaccine clinic this Saturday from 9:00 to 3:00 at the Health Department office on 11th Street in Panama City.
