Sales Tax Vote Will Come in August

The Bay County Commission is putting a half-cent sales tax on the ballot for the August 31 primary election ballot.

The money from the proposed tax will go to pay off the incinerator debt as well as a variety of other issues like storm water drainage, transportation and parks and recreation.

The tax would run for 15 years. If approved by the voters, taxing levels would return to where they were a year ago before an old half-cent local sales tax expired.

What's not included in the proposed tax is any money for area hospitals.

A half-cent tax for indigent care could be put on the November general election ballot in Bay County.
