Without comment, the First District Court of Appeals upheld 24-year-old Christopher Brian Morrison's conviction and sentence.
Morrison beat three-year-old Chance Keesler to death at his home in Springfield in October of 1991. Morrison was the boyfriend of Chance's mother.
Doctors had testified in court Morrison beat the child so severely; he split the boy's liver in-two.
Morrison claimed that young Chance's injuries were accidental, but the jury still convicted him of first degree murder.
