Few Clues in the Murder of a Panama City Beach Teen

He was a boy looking for love, patience and understanding. Now, his family is trying to cope with the lost of a loving boy they say was taken from them too soon.

Bay County sheriff's deputies found Jeffrey Shane Elliott next to the boat ramp on in the 6500 block of South Lagoon Drive last Wednesday. It was just a few blocks from his home.

The 17-year-old was badly beaten and barely conscious. He died two days later.

Ruth Sasser is the Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Department. "The physicians who cared for him felt that in their opinion the injuries were not accidental," she says.

Now, sheriff's investigators are trying to piece together what happened.

Jeff's mother, Debbie Elliott, says she still can't fathom someone beating her son to death. "We really don't know if was something at random or someone that knew him. The investigators have been great. They've been on it 24/7, and will be until they find who did this."

She says she owes it to herself and son to find out the truth about his death.

Jeffery’s sister Michelle McBee related he had such a great life ahead of him. "He was a good hearted kid, full of life, really looking forward to his future. Making something out of his life and he just didn't get a chance to."

If you have any information about Jeff's death you can call investigator John Summerall at the Sheriff's Office at 747-4700.
