Ice cream vendor Paul McCarty has worked in Walton and Okaloosa Counties selling ice cream for nearly 15 years.
Earlier this week he asked the Destin City Council for a license to sell ice cream in the city. The council said no, citing a city policy that doesn't allow mobile vendors.
City Manager Greg Kisela said that kind of clutter can tie up traffic in Destin.
He adds he doesn't want to open any floodgates for anyone else. "We are trying to make sure the door isn't opened to other vendors."
City officials plan to re-examine their decision and make a final recommendation towards the end of the summer and the end of the busy ice cream season.
