Panhandle Getting Hit With Lots of Rain

Rain, heavy at times, has been falling across the Northwest Florida area. Amounts ranged from about a half inch in Panama City to almost five inches near Ft. Walton Beach/Pensacola.

The low pressure area out in the Gulf is causing the rain and its moving slowly to the north.

More rain is expected and a flash flood watch is in effect.

Forecasters say the low remains poorly organized so far, though thunderstorm activity is increasing. They say conditions remain “marginally favorable” for strengthening to a tropical depression over the next day or so.

Officials at the state Emergency Operations Center say the system is nothing more than a rain producer at this point, but they are keeping an eye out for possible development.
