Three Die in Separate Area Traffic Crashes

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say 19-year-old Rickey D. Thames of Bonifay was killed in the mishap which occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Thames was traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the road and crashed into a tree. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Meanwhile, a Panama City Beach Taxi driver was killed early Wednesday morning when her cab crashed head on with another car on Front Beach Road just east of the Long Beach area.

Troopers say 29-year-old Kelly M. Thomas crossed the centerline of the four lane highway and crashed into a car driven by 36-year-old Mark Coleman of Cliton, New York.

Coleman and his two passengers were wearing seat belts and were not seriously injured.

Kelly Thomas, the cabbie, was not wearing a seat belt. She died shortly after the accident.

And, Wednesday afternoon, a 60 year old Clarksville woman died in a head on crash on State Road 20 just east of State Road 73 in Calhoun County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Virginia M. Pitts died when she lost control of her car, crossed the center line and hit a second car head on.

She was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the second car, 59 year old Johnny Culpepper of Dothan was wearing a seat belt and was not seriously injured.
