Panama City Police Kick Off Project Childsafe

A program to keep children safe from firearms hit a bit of a snag on its opening day.

The Panama City Police Department was scheduled to give out free gun locks Monday to anyone who stopped by the department's substation on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, but some people who showed up found the station doors locked.

Turns out the officers had to go to a funeral Monday and were not able to hand out the locks as expected, but don't worry. The Project Childsafe gun lock giveaway will go on Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The kits include a safety book and a cable-style gun lock so you can securely store your gun. If you have any questions, please contact Lt. Kathy McCurdy at 872-7214.
