A Walton County woman arrives home following a day of shopping and finds that a burglar had stolen thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, firearms, and electronic items. The heist took place sometime between 10:30 Saturday morning to 5:30 that afternoon.
The home is located at the 5700 Block of Highway 83 outside of DeFuniak Springs. Its owner, Mary Walls, arrived to find the front door unlocked, and quickly saw the mess inside.
She then left the home and contacted the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. A Sheriff’s Deputy arrived to make sure there was no one inside the residence. The burglar had apparently ransacked the home looking for cash and valuables. A 22-caliber rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, pellet gun, and car stereo equipment were among the possessions taken.
A Walton County Sheriff’s Investigator determined that the perpetrator(s) used possibly a pocketknife, or screwdriver to manipulate the front door latch. The suspect or suspects then rummaged through every room. They then exited the house through the carport door. The victim’s truck outside the residence was also burglarized, and items taken.
The Sheriff’s Office is currently in the process of tracking down a possible suspect in the case.
