A private citizen has stepped forward to help fund the building of a new on-campus stadium at Fort Walton Beach High School. In return, that person gets the naming rights to the stadium.
That person is Steven Riggs, a partner in a northwest Florida accounting firm. He's also a' 72 Fort Walton Beach grad who has three boys who also graduated from the school, and currently has a daughter at Fort Walton Beach.
The $500,000 contribution, roughly one-fifth the cost, means the new stadium will be called "Steve Riggs Stadium".
The new stadium is necessary because the old on campus stadium is too small to host the kind of crowds the Vikings generate. For the past several years, Fort Walton's had to share Etheridge Stadium with Choctaw.
