George Holzerwood is charged with murder in the beating death of Karl Nolder.
Prosecutors from the State Attorney’s office say Holzerwood and another suspect Michael Freebarin beat Nolder to death with a hammer and tried to burn his body in some woods off Harrison Avenue last December just a few days before Christmas.
Freebarin's case hasn't gone to trial yet.
Holzerwood's defense attorney, Walter Smith, says Holzerwood was in the area the night of the killing, but a third person is responsible.
If convicted, Holzerwood faces life in prison.
