Bay County commissioners unanimously passed a resolution asking you to vote against Amendment 4, commonly known as "Hometown Democracy."

Supporters contend it puts people back in charge, giving voters the power to change the community's comprehensive plan. They believe it will prevent unplanned, reckless over-development.

But, commissioners claim the amendment could prevent smart growth and stifle prosperity. They say holding elections on each zoning and land use change could get expensive.

Bay County commissioner Jerry Girvin said, "So, you have a combination of an expense for the taxpayer, all of us, and you have where it's slowing down business where the guy who's going to create a business or build a house says 'Forget it, I'll go somewhere else, Georgia, Alabama.' "

Girvin also says people might not understand what they are voting on because of the complex nature of some issues.

It does not matter how you vote. If the commissioners really want to build it they will find a loop hole or a way around what the residents really want. They have done it in the past & they will continue to do it in the future.

If this had been in effect before could we as citizens have stopped the new airport?

Last time I ran into Girvin he was a game warden cleaning mud off a jeep. Not to knock game wardens at all, but when did this guy jump into rocket science and leap so far ahead of the rest of us that only him and the men who walked on the moon can understand the voting booth or even how to read? Give me a break! Does this guy thinks that his constituents are too stupid to understand local politics?
