Private security officers say they saw Raymond Eugene Johnson stealing construction equipment in Rosemary Beach around 2:30 in the morning.

Walton County deputies arrived in time to see Johnson jump into a black Mustang and drive off. Deputies chased the car on County Road 30-A and Highway 98 at speeds of more than 100 miles an hour at times.

Johnson lost control of the car, crashed on Highway 98, and took off on foot toward Bay County. Authorities finally caught up with him five hours later in Laguna Beach.

It turns out the Mustang was stolen. He's facing several charges at this point including fleeing in Alabama. He's being held in the Bay County Jail Friday night.
