Legislation laying out statewide regulations for red light cameras is making its way through the legislative processes.
The bill passed through a house committee this morning on a unanimous vote.
Melissa Wandall helped shape the legislation after her husband was killed in 2003 by a red light runner.
“Common courtesy is no longer a part of our daily life. If common courtesy was, we wouldn’t even be here today. We wouldn’t need to install these cameras, because these cameras are going to retrain people’s brains on how to stop again.”
The bill’s sponsor says without statewide regulation guiding the use of redlight cameras, court challenges of the legality of the cameras in cities that install them will continue.
