Walton county commissioners have decided to move forward with the Tourist Development Council's proposed feasibility study.
It's the first step to bring a performing arts venue and a sports complex to the area.
Commissioners weren't so willing to say the same when it came to the county's special event noise ordinance issues.
Walton county commissioners apparently like the idea of adding a sports complex and an outdoor concert venue to the area.
"A lot of these residents and supporters of this plan stepped forward and gave them information that they needed to hear. And of course the outcome is they did not rescind the previous vote so we will move forward with the feasibility studies” says Sonny Mares of the TDC.
The Tourist Development Council has budgeted $97,000 thousand dollars to conduct both of these studies, and some residents are saying it is a good investment for the county.
"This will be something incredibly positive for our kids; I think if we've already budgeted the money I can't fathom why we wouldn't want to move forward on that" says one resident who stepped forward to voice his approval at the Tuesday night meeting.
While commissioners moved forward on the sports and art centers feasibility studies, they did not react so quickly to a proposed noise ordinance, involving the wedding industry and other special events that may interfere with residential lifestyles.
"The wedding industry is a large industry in Walton County and we appreciate them being here; As well as the flip side of that coin, we have a lot of things going on in residential neighborhoods that interrupt their peace and quiet” says County Commissioner Sara Comander.
The issue was tabled tonight but an ordinance is expected to be drafted within the next sixty days.
County commissioners will set public hearings on the noise ordinance issue to receive community feedback before legislation is adopted.
