Bay County's Transportation Planning Organization needs more room.

The current facility on Massalina Drive in Panama City houses the Bay Town Trolley and Bay Area transportation services.

Right now, the department has around 75 vehicles and growing.

"We can't even put all of our vehicles on the piece of property. We've been looking for sometime for a place to build a new facility," Rob Mahan, West Florida Regional Planning Council's Senior Transportation Planner said.

The T.P.O's parent company, the West Florida Regional Planning Council, is looking at three properties in Panama City to possibly build a new hub.

One site is the old "Project Nemo" sight near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Highway 231. Another is the brand-new, never-occupied Saturn dealership on 15th Street that fell victim to the poor economy.

And the third other is a 13 acre plot behind the Buffalo Rock bottling company off Sherman Avenue.

The organization bought that land in 2008 with federal grant money.

"The facility we want to build. We want to make it for a 25-year horizon so that it will be adequate through the next 25 years to support the growth of public transportation in Bay County," Mahan said.

Mahan says each property has its advantages and disadvantages.

"The largest site that we purchased over 13 acres. The smallest site is the Saturn dealership, but the Saturn dealership has buildings already there. Then the Project Nemo sight in between but the location may be a little bit better," Mahan said.

The planning council has hired a Panama City Beach firm to figure out which location is the best. They will present those findings to the T.P.O on March 24th.
