Eglin "Surge"

Eglin's 68th Fighter Squadron is conducting surge operations Tuesday through Thursday.

A surge is when a squadron flies a large number of aircraft a number of times throughout the day. Eglin officials expect 15 to 20 F-15s to fly up to 150 sorties a day.

The practice simulates wartime flying, but also gives fighter pilots a chance to work out all the kinks.

1st Lt. Jacob Leim of the 58th Fighter Squadron says, "You get to turn real quick. You get to think about mistakes you made and go apply what you've just mess a try to fix that for the next sortie real quick and instead of having to think about it overnight ."

Eglin's 60th fighter squadron will hold surge operations Tuesday through Thursday of next week.
