The dogs that help local law enforcement fight suspects and criminals were honored Saturday.
Saturday is K-9 Veterans Day and a ceremony was held around noon at
The Veterans Memorial Path at Pier Park to commemorate the brave dogs.
The event even featured the Bay County Sheriff's Office honor guard for a 21-gun salute. These dogs provide invaluable assistance to officers each and every day.
Their capabilities to sniff out just the slightest bit of trouble are what make these four-legged canines unique. A growing number of police agencies outfit the dogs with bullet-proof vests. And some even make the K-9's sworn officers.
The dogs even have their own badges.
