Andrew Sheppard has been sentenced to life in prison. Under state law, he must serve at least 25 years.

Sheppard was convicted of shooting and killing Christopher Forehand in December of last year. Forehand had tried to stop a fight between Sheppard and Sheppard's girlfriend when he was shot.

Forehand's family says they're pleased with the sentence.

His mother, Pamela Forehand, says he left behind a four-year-old son, Chase.

"He still asks for his dad. He still thinks daddy's coming home, because he works out of town a lot, so he thinks dad's out of town, working."

Sheppard is still facing other charges relating to the killing. He could face even more time in prison if convicted of those crimes.
