Angry Floridians are starting to let Governor Charlie Crist know exactly how frustrated they are with the lack of insurance relief coming out of the Capitol. Three dozen insurance companies are asking for rate hikes in spite of last January’s special legislative session that was supposed to bring rates down. Lawmakers are starting to wonder if they’ll have to go back to the drawing board.

A sampling of emails to Governor Charlie Crist show just how fed up Floridians are with promises of insurance rate relief that haven’t panned out.

Mr. and Mrs. George of Melbourne write Allstate just cancelled them and another company wants to jack up their premiums 90 percent.

Jerry Taggart of Lynn Haven says his rates with State Farm just doubled from 24-hundred dollars a year to 48-hundred.

Suresh Pai in Tampa says he’s outraged and disgusted with the whole situation.

And the language gets tougher. Christopher Smith in Palm Harbor writes to the governor I will not be voting for you again. You did not represent our best interest with the solution you and the legislature have come up with.

At this week’s Cabinet meeting, Crist and Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink almost seemed to agree.

"Let’s go back to where we were before if it’s not going to make any difference. Crist: the thought has passed my mind too, I gotta tell ya. Sink: Get the people of Florida off the hook for the extra 12 billion dollars.

Even lawmakers who voted for the plan now wonder if that was the right choice. Representative Curtis Richardson suggests the governor call another special session

This would be a do-over of a do-over. Is that practical? Curtis: Well, I mean, there are lots of issues that have come before the legislature that have had to be tweaked time and time again.

And frankly Floridians say insurance relief obviously needs a lot more tweaking.

Florida lawmakers have already scheduled another special session in September to cut the state budget, and House Minority Leader Dan Gelber is urging Governor Crist to add insurance relief to the agenda.

In the meantime, the state Office of Insurance Regulation begins several public hearings this month on rate hike requests proposed by more than a half-dozen insurance companies. Go to www.floir.com for a list of hearing dates, places and times.

The insurance companies are thieves. The legislators are morons, along with the governor. Property owners have been shafted by all three of them.
