Search Narrowed For David Slusser's Replacement

Updated: Fri 11:14 AM, Jul 23, 2004

Interim Chief John Van Etten is the only local candidate among the semi-finalists announced by City Manager Ken Hammons.

The other five are: Robert J. Daniels of Boca Raton, Fl., David L. Lyons of Savannah, Ga., Gary Yandura of College Park, Ga., Michael J. Clancey of Westerville, Ohio, and Anthony J. Smith of Tallahassee, Fl.

Following background and reference checks, Hammons will decide which candidates he wants to interview.

He told NewsChannel Seven he wants a Police Chief who is a good fit for the department and the city.

The Chief’s job opened-up July 5, when long-time Chief David Slusser retired. He’s now a candidate for Bay County Sheriff in this fall’s elections.

Over 100 people applied for Slusser’s position.
