The foreigners from Ukraine and Poland moved into cottages just off Highway 98 last Tuesday.

City officials say they wanted put them into housing before Tropical Storm Bonnie reached our area. The cottage owner is letting them stay for free until their Visas expire and they have to go home.

Property owner Tom Curry had been allowing the students live on his property, sharing a toilet and a shower, but two weeks ago the city put a stop to the arrangement. City officials say they want to make sure these students, and others in the future, will be properly cared for.

Kisela estimates 500 foreign students come to Destin each summer to work.
