The Pentagon Is Making Another Big Investment in Tyndall Air Force Base

Top brass broke ground on a new multimillion dollar Air Operations Center this week.

The center, which is a key element in safeguarding the air sovereignty of the United States, is operated by the First Air Force and the Florida Air National Guard.

The new facility will consolidate operations now being housed in eight buildings at Tyndall, and while there's no such thing as a "BRAC proof" base, this certainly won't hurt Tyndall's chances in avoiding the next round of base closures.

Tyndall needs the larger Air Ops Center to accommodate the increase in their mission and personnel since the 9/11 attacks. This, combined with the FA-22 Raptor activities, has made Tyndall a much busier base.
