Arrest Made In Local Homicide Investigation, More Suspects Sought

Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen says Jake Wesley Presley has been arrested in the homicide investigation of Chad Mercer whose body was recovered in Crooked Creek near West Bay on Friday morning.

Presley is charged with Tampering with Evidence and Failure to Register as a Convicted Felon.

Sheriff McKeithen says Investigators developed Presley as the last person seen with Mercer prior to his death. During the course of questioning, it was learned that Presley destroyed potential evidence in this case. Deputies also learned that when he was release from prison at the Panama City Community Correctional Facility, Presley failed to register as a convicted felon with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office as required by Florida Statute.

Presley drives a 1992 red, Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, displaying Florida tag ABB R72. McKeithen is asking for the public’s assistance with this case, and is requesting that anyone that has information related to this case or who may have seen Jake Presley or Chad Mercer on the evening of Wednesday, May 19 contact the Bay County Sheriffs Office at (850) 747-4700.
