A boater out on St. Andrews Bay this holiday weekend spotted what many believe to be body of missing boater James Cook.
Cook was last seen jumping off a speeding boat, the “Hook and Cook,” not far from Redfish Point in St. Andrews Bay last Monday.
Though friends and several agencies began an immediate and extensive search for the man, all efforts came up empty, and the official search was scaled back on Saturday.
However, Saturday afternoon the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission received a call from a boater who noticed what is believed to be Cooks body washed up on Military Point, across from the paper mill on the Tyndall side.
The body has not been positively identified yet, but a representative from the Bay County medical examiner’s office says an examination is scheduled for today. They say the body was already pretty decomposed, and it’s most likely that an official identification will be made using dental records, or DNA.
