Vacationer Drowns in Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake in Washington County is a popular spot for boaters and water skiers, but Sunday it was the scene of tragedy.

Washington County sheriff’s deputies received a call just before 6 p.m. that a man was trapped under the water. The victim was a swimming with a friend when they began exploring a natural spring in a deep area of Crystal Lake. One of the men began screaming when he realized his friend was stuck in the spring.

Nearby residents heard the cries for help and one happed to be a lifeguard. He tried to help, but says the victim was caught under something in a very deep area.

A dive team from the Sheriff’s Office pulled the man’s lifeless body to the surface a short time after arriving on the scene. Next of kin have not been notified, but it was said that the victim was visiting the area.
