Teen Gets 25 Years in Father's Shooting Death

A Walton County teen is getting 25 years in prison in the shooting death of his father.

Eighteen-year-old Ryan Mingledorff has pleaded no contest and has been adjudicated guilty on one count of second-degree murder with a firearm.

He had been charged with first-degree murder, but charges were reduced to second-degree murder following a psychological evaluation.

Mingledorff will spend at least part of his time in a youthful offender facility. He also has to continue medical treatment for undisclosed ailments as part of the plea agreement.

The teen was 17 when he shot James Mingledorff several times in the face with a .22 caliber rifle inside their DeFuniak Springs home last Nov. 30. He then fastened an extension cord around his father's neck and tied the cord's other end to a pickup truck's bumper.
