Tallahassee - There have been reports of some recreational fishermen trying to use their boats to cash in on BP’s Vessels of Opportunities program.

The program attempts to help charter boat captains who are forced to stop fishing because of the spill, earn a pay check cleaning up the oil.

At an economic recovery taskforce meeting yesterday, Bob Zales, the president of the National Association of Charterboat Operators, warned a BP representative of the imposters trying to steal work from fishing and charter boat captains.

To try and keep the program honest… BP is checking fishing licenses and denying applicants who aren’t career fishermen or charter boat captains.

I have a dive charter boat, when I fill my boat with divers, their familys play on the beach shop in the stores they eat at the resturants and stay at local motels. With tar balls and sub-surface oil I can't put people in the water. It upsets me to see someone who takes their bass boat out to deerpoint or goes to shell island on the weekends out in the bay cruising by the booms while my BUSINESS is dead in the water!

I think any person who can help with the clean of BP mess should be able to do it... more people cleaning faster we can have all ready and less damage the ecosistems will take.

What makes them think they are the only ones losing money? The trickle down effect will affect small business owners, waitresses, hotel workers and on down the line. We are losing on our beach rentals and why shouldn't we be able to work? I told BP to push us back on the list to help the fisherman, but after this I have changed my mind.
