Southport- Three local children, who overdosed on prescription drugs Thursday, are still in critical condition in Pensacola's Sacred Heart Hospital Friday night. Authorities say 12-year- old Houston Snowden, 15-year-old Brittany Baldwin, and 16-year-old Lacy Ridley got into a bottle of painkillers that belong to one of the kid's parents.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call around 4:30 Thursday afternoon at a home on Resota Beach Road. Twelve-year-old Houston Snowden and his step-sister, 16-year-old Lacy Ridley, live there with their parents, Angela and Joseph Snowden. The deputies and paramedics found Ridley and 15-year-old Brittany Baldwin incapacitated. Snowden, who was still conscious, reportedly told deputies they'd taken some of their mother's Tramadol, a powerful painkiller.

The children apparently took the pills from Angela Snowden's bedroom dresser drawer. "It's very dangerous when kids take pills that are not prescribed for them by a doctor. They don't know what to expect and not feeling anything in the next 3 or 4 minutes they end up taking 3 or 4 more. That seems to be what happened in this case," said Bay County Sheriff's Office PIO Ruth Corley.

Authorities arrested one person; 20-year-old Clare Marie Briscoe is accused of giving Baldwin a Xanax pill. Authorities say they also found marijuana in Briscoe's home. But, so far, no one else is being charged. "Right now there are no criminal charges against the parents, they do not appear to have been negligent. The medication has been prescribed to the mother."

Some of the Snowden's neighbors believe the tragedy could have been prevented. "I take prescription painkillers, I'm in pain 24 hours a day, I got a plate in my neck but my kids can't get to my drugs," said Glenn Thomas.

With all three children still in critical condition, no one's sure how this will end. But local authorities are hoping other parents will learn from this sad incident. "Children are curious no matter what their age. If you have teenagers in the home and you think you don't need to worry about destroying unwanted medications, you need to think again."

The Bay County Sheriff's Cffice will offer free disposal of leftover medications, no questions asked, beginning Monday morning at 8 o'clock. They're setting up a drop box in the sheriff's office lobby.
