There are about 6,500 individual hand-made booms so far, but organizers say there's enough hair to make as many as 20,000.

Hair Boom Ready To Be Deployed In Northwest Florida

Last month we told you how local beauty salons were collecting hair to help build booms.

It’s taken a while to assemble, but now thousands of feet of hair boom is sitting in a Ft. Walton Beach warehouse, ready to be deployed.

There are about 6,500 individual hand-made booms so far, but organizers say there's enough hair to make as many as 20,000.

The hair has been arriving from all over the world in support of the not-for-profit "Matter of Trust"

"We're getting boxes of hair from all over the world. It's crazy; China, Finland, everywhere. So through ‘Matter of Trust’ we've gotten tons of hair, tons of pantyhose. We've got a lot of boom we just need help in putting the boom out” says organizer Barbara Johnson.

The Coast Guard cleared the hair boom for duty Wednesday afternoon so it could be deployed in the next few days.
