Alabama Stables Sought for Florida Horses in Frances’ Path

Stables are being sought in Alabama for horses evacuated from the path of Hurricane Frances.

Lisa Kriese-Anderson, an animal scientist at the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, says several stables have been located for the horses. She says Florida horse owners are being told that there is no room available in Georgia for any more evacuated horses.

Limited stable space is available at the following Alabama sites: Houston County Farm Center, Dothan; Fort Rucker; Troy University's equestrian center, Troy; Auburn University; W.H. Kirkpatrick Pavilion, Autaugaville and the Jon Archer Agricultural Center, Mobile.

Extension agent Rickey Hudson in Houston County and Stan Windham, Coffee County Extension coordinator, are leading the stable search.
