A 9 year old vacationer has died in a Panama City hospital this morning after drowning in the Gulf of Mexico.

9 year old Jada Grier from Birmingham, Alabama was pulled from the gulf late yesterday afternoon in the 13,000 block of Front Beach Road behind the Paradise Palms Inn. She was visiting here with a youth group from Birmingham.

Witnesses say she became distressed while swimming and was unconscious when responders pulled her from the water.

She was taken by Paramedics to the hospital where she was listed in extremely critical condition until she died shortly before dawn today.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the area medical examiners office. Panama City Beach police are continuing their investigation.

I was one of the youth that was with Jada before she drowned im here to say that Im extremly sorry she drowned. There were no lifeguards on the beach and could have been saved. Now we cant even go to Florida anymore because Jada's Grandmother sued the church and im exremly mad because it wasant our fault I aasked Jada to get on my back and she told me "no i want to jump the wave" i couldnt just pull her out she would have went back anyway but we did have someone watching us at the time he nearly drowned trying to get her.

My heart goes out to Jada's family and your family. My son drowned at P.C.beach on 3/27/2001. He was on Thomas Dr. with NO life guards.I don't understand this because Daytona has lifeguards every where, they blow whistles to keep people put of the water when it's not safe and it works. My son and friends were in such shallow water that they thought they were safe but the rip tide got him.He was precious and left 2 young boys that his Dad and I are now raising. It is almost unbearable to live through day after day missing him more and more. May God bless all of you and your families.
