Over 100 members of the Florida National Guard in Panama City left here Saturday morning and are heading out to help the victims of Hurricane Frances.

The 100 troops left at dawn Saturday from the National Guard Armory on Lisenby Ave. They are heading to a staging area at Camp Blanding near Jacksonville.

From there they will be assigned to the damaged areas around the state once Frances has passed.

Local Guardsmen will provide humanitarian aid, security and search and rescue. They’ll also help with clearing trees, power lines and other debris.

Another group of local Guardsmen was sent to the Ft. Myers area several weeks ago to offer similar help following the onslaught of Hurricane Charley.
