Bowden Grandson and Former Son-in-Law Killed in I-10 Crash

A grandson of Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden and Bowden's former son-in-law were killed Sunday in a traffic crash on Interstate 10 near Quincy in Gadsden County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say their car was hit a by a utility truck from Texas that was headed to Florida helping to restore power outages caused by Hurricane Frances.

John Allen Madden, a 45-year-old former Florida State lineman who played under Bowden, and his 15-year-old son, Bowden Madden, were killed instantly in the accident.

The Madden's live at Shalimar in Okaloosa County.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say their car bumped a van as the two were traveling side by side on Interstate 10. Both vehicles crossed over the highway median. The van bounced into some woods.

The Madden’s vehicle was struck by a truck on the passenger door. The two passengers in the van had minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.
