PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla Today, March 27th, is the nine year anniversary of the murder Sgt. Kevin Kight of the Panama City Beach Police Department.
Kight was shot and killed Easter Sunday night in 2005, during a traffic stop on Front Beach Road at Edgewater.
He had pulled-over Robert Bailey for a minor traffic violation. He was unaware Bailey was wanted in Wisconsin for violating his parole.
As Sgt. Kight approached Bailey's car to give him a ticket, Bailey shot Kight twice, just above the top of his bullet-proof vest. A jury convicted Bailey of first degree murder. He's now sitting on death row.
Kight is the only Panama City Beach police officer killed in the line of duty.
