Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer Leads to Manhunt

A Walton County Sheriff's Deputy was injured and one man jailed after a strange turn of events Wednesday night.

It began around 6:30 in the evening at the Express Lane gas station at the corner of Highway 331 and State Road 20.

44-year old deputy Marjorie Ginell King noticed a 1999 blue Jeep Wrangler which had been reported stolen.

As she was waiting for back-up to arrive, 22-year-old Steven Ritchie of Bonaire, Georgia got into the jeep, began rolling backwards toward king's patrol car, then jumped out.

The jeep hit king's car, injuring her shoulder.

That set-off a 4-hour manhunt, that ended with Ritchie's arrest near Freeport.

"We had a lot of resources, a lot of deputies out on the street. We had to set a a perimeter in a big area we had to make sure he didn't get away because someone like this is very violent and very dangerous," said AJ Smith.

Richie is being charged with aggravated battery on a officer, leaving a scene of an accident with injuries, resisting arrest and grand theft auto but authorities ay he could face more charges as they continue to investigate.
