Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport’s board will hold an emergency meeting Wednesday morning to talk about finding a replacement for the airport’s executive director.
John Wheat has submitted his resignation, effective April 5. Wheat, who took over at ECP in April 2011, has accepted the job of director of airports for Sacramento County, California.
“We are sad to lose John but congratulate him and his family on this tremendous opportunity, and we thank him for all he has done,” said John Pilcher, Airport Authority Board Chairman.
“It should come as no surprise to anyone that John would have other airports interested in his leadership.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Wheat was chosen from among 18 candidates during a nationwide search. The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved his hire Tuesday.
The job pays $189,716 plus benefits, a nearly $38,000 pay raise.
Wheat is scheduled to start work in Sacramento on April 14.
