Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Two People

PANAMA CITY BEACH - A Panama City Beach policeman was one of two people seriously injured at 1 a.m. Sunday morning when a driver hit them at the scene of a traffic crash on Back Beach Road at the entrance to the Palmetto Trace subdivision.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Richard Allen Johns of Panama City Beach was driving on the wrong side of the divided highway when he crashed into an earlier accident and a wrecker hooking up to one of the cars.

Two people standing at the scene, one of them Beach Police Captain Ronald Crowson and the other person identified as Royce Kershaw of Destin, were both seriously injured.

Troopers say Johns has been charged with driving on the wrong side of the highway, DUI with seriously bodily injury, DUI with property damage and DUI with personal injury. He was lodged in the Bay County Jail.
