PANAMA CITY BEACH- Panama City Beach officials have requested a hearing to decided Simon Properties' officials request to add up to 10 amusement park rides at Pier Park.
The issue surfaced yesterday at the city's planning board meeting.
Pier Park wants to put up to 10 rides on the property that the owners of Miracle Strip Amusement Park just vacated a few months ago.
They've moved to a larger piece of land next door.
But Miracle Strip's owners, Jenny and Teddy Meeks, contend Simon has not gone through the proper amusement designation process the city required them to do in 2009.
Yesterday planning board members ruled they didn't need to approve amusements twice on the same land, and approved Simon's request.
Anticipating the Meeks will challenge the ruling before the city council, city manager Mario Gisbert requested the hearing himself.
That hearing will take place on June 26th at 12:30 pm.
