Skydiving Incident at the Beach Ends Safely

Thursday afternoon Panama City Beach Police officers responded to a wooded area north of Middle Beach Road between Richard Jackson Boulevard and Alf Coleman after callers reported a possible crash involving a skydiving parachutist.

Officers arriving on scene in the woods behinds the Lowe's Store located the main parachute on The Club Apartments property.

Beach Police and Bay County Sheriff’s helicopter later located the skydiving parachutists in the Old Publix parking lot on Middle Beach Road unharmed.

The investigation revealed one parachutist had lost steering on the main parachute and had to deploy the secondary parachute. Both parachutists landed safely and no injuries were reported. The two were skydiving with a group operating from the Northwest Florida Beaches Airport when the near tragedy almost happened.

The low flying parachutes drew a lot of attention from onlookers in the area.
