Another Drowning, Second in Less Than 24 Hours

Sunday afternoon two swimmers in south Walton County were rescued from extremely rough gulf waters. One of them, the man who went into rescue the first, died Sunday evening.

Eyewitnesses say one man got into trouble and the second man went to rescue him. Both were overcome when caught in the rough surf. This was in the Ed Wallene Park area of West 30A.

A Walton County Sheriff's Deputy and South Walton fire rescue life guards brought both to shore and started CPR.

Both were taken to Emerald Coast Sacred Heart. The rescuer who went to help the first swimmer has died this evening. The second man man was admitted in serious condition.

Neither man has been identified.
