WASHINGTON CO. - Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a shooting incident in Washington County that left one man dead.

Tuesday night, Michael Snyder was shot and killed by officials along Highway 90 in Washington County after reports of a man walking along the road with a gun.

Authorities approached Snyder and that's when he who took off into the woods.

The Holmes County Sheriff's Office and Bonifay Police Department were called in to help.

Snyder reportedly came out of the woods, ignored officers orders and lifted the gun.

That's when he was shot and killed.

Synder's family says the whole incident seems so out of character.

"We want to let everybody to know he was a very gentle and sweet man. We was awesome he would help anybody. He would give them the shirt off his back," said Sandra Freeman, victim's cousin.

Now his family is waiting to hear back from authorities.

Freeman said, "I can't believe this has happened. What he could have possibly done? We do want to get the facts and get to the bottom of it."

Still no word yet on which agency shot and killed Synder.
