Arson Suspected in Beach Fire

Posted: Tue 9:31 AM, Jul 17, 2012

Bay County Sheriff's Deputies and firefighters are investigating a suspicious fire that happened Monday evening in Panama City Beach.

The first started a little after 7:00 PM at a house on Moylan Road a few blocks south of Back Beach Road. The home was vacant. In fact, it had been condemned as unsuitable for habitation.

Panama City Beach and Bay County firefighters both responded to the scene. Battallion Chief Darrel Wise said the fire spread very quickly. "Upon arrival, it was fully involved. It's a single story wood framed structure. It's supposed to be abandoned, but we've had reports of vagrant traffic going in and out of it."

The home was destroyed. Authorities say witnesses described at least 1-person seen leaving the home shortly before the fire.

They also say they've received complaints about vagrants hanging around there before.
