Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are taking steps to get rid of a predatory species of fish.
They've approved a ban on imports of lionfish by Forida aquarium businesses.
They've approved methods that make it easier for scuba divers to catch lionfish in the wild.
And they've agreed to expand spear-fishing of lionfish during approved tournaments and other organized events with the proper permits.
Lionfish are native to the Indian Ocean and South Pacific.
Because it does not have a natural enemy here in Florida, it's been able to devour the native sport and commercial fish populations.
Lionfish are venomous, but are edible.
In fact there are already local lionfish tournaments that serve the catches.
