Bay County Approves $3 Million Line of Credit

BAY COUNTY - Bay County's plans to take over EMS operations are moving forward.

Tuesday, county commissioners voted to secure a three million dollar line of credit to help with any start up costs.

Commissioners say they'll use about $300,000 EMS's existing building and equipment from Bay Medical Sacred Heart.

Several banks submitted bids on the transaction. Commissioners selected Hancock Bank which provided the lowest interest rate of 1.29%.

"We could borrow it from one of our own funds, but you have to repay that back too and with interest usually and this interest rate, we can't beat this, it's a perfect opportunity for us to get in it," said Bay County Commissioner, Mike Thomas.

The county is expected to take over all EMS operations in October. They plan to pay back the line of credit by 2015.
